Large folded banknotes hang like curtains across the top of the canvas, one showing the national emblem and another a smiling portrait. Below them stands a thin, bare-chested man, his body drawn in fine grey texture, with a pale cloth around his waist. A deep red band separates the notes from the soft, sandy ground. The painting sets the weight of money against the quiet dignity of the common man. Warm cream and red tones keep the mood serious yet calm. A strong social statement in a large square format, suited to galleries, offices and thoughtful collectors.
