Rakhi Baid

A self-educated and independent soul with a true self accomplished success story in very short describes Rakhi’s journey, from Lanjiberna in rural Adivasi village of Odissa, to the city of dreams Mumbai. Where she made her presence felt as an artist and established her own identity. Born with an energetic creative urge combined with a never say die attitude reflects well in her expression through her creations. She has dared to experiment, learn, and most importantly FAIL which illustrates well in her growth as an artist and in the art that she now displays. It was this quality that she connected with, and it sowed in her the idea of exploring the world of art as a preferred profession from being a wife, a mother, and a proud homemaker.

She impassionedly connects to the interpretation of Krishna as a notion, with his quality of being a perfect human with his imperfections and she expresses this in creative symbolic ways. Her ardent devotion to her art evokes a deep emotional connect and often brings a sense of true serenity and passion. Her preferred color of choice is blue which is a representation of Kanha and the color of eternity – deep space, the oceans, the sky. Her work has its own rhythm and musicality which blends and renders beautifully with the choice of colors and subtle Kanha symbolism. Her preferred medium being acrylic and oil on canvas does not impede her will to experiment and she will gladly accept a challenge to use other alternative mediums as she has in copper etc. She has over 50 groups shows and 12 solo shows both within the country and internationally.

Finally in her own words – ‘Art became my approach to express my passion from the wealth of creativity that I knew I had. This passion keeps me on a pilgrimage of discovering new meaning to life through my art – through my forms, compositions, colors, mediums or concepts. Every day I live to learn and learn to express and experiment - life with my own imperfections is my institute. And I am ecstatic to be imperfect, as he is.’
