Dr. Suryasnata Mohanty

Born in Bhubaneshwar, Dr. Suryasnata Mohanty has a PhD degree in Law. She is an LLM alumnus of the prestigious National Law School of India University, Bangalore. In her journey of life, Suryasnata has worked in legal profession, taught law in a renowned university and worked for education of underprivileged children, before pursuing painting with professional devotion. Engaging with art since childhood, having trained under professional artists, Suryasnata has continued to paint as her calling. Her upbringing in the ancient living city of Bhubaneshwar inspired her initial works on continuities and connectivity; similes of structures and flows of life informing her worldview which found expression in her abstracts and impressions. She has held solo shows - Universe in a Mobius Strip at DLF Promenade Mall, Submergence and Emergence at India Habitat Centre and participated in National Kala Mela of Lalit Kala Akademi, besides showing her works in group exhibitions across the country, including at National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh (curated by Shobha Broota), Salar Jung Museum, Hyderabad etc. besides several online international shows. She has taken part in national level art camps and workshops. Dr Suryasnata’s exhibitions and works have featured in art pages in leading newspapers and periodicals, drawing critical applause. She mostly works in acrylic medium with brush and palette knife with equal love, at times also picking up oil, watercolor and charcoal in her art practice. An avid traveller and independent artist, Suryasnata currently works out of her Delhi studio.
